Kamon Symbols - Brick Red Kofu Tsumugi cotton fabric

Each measures approximately 108cm x 61cm.   Printed onto Kofu Tsumugi fabric which has the look of shot silk – but is actually 100% cotton – developed by Olympus Threads Japan. The weft is a yarn dyed black thread, and the warp the appropriate yarn dyed colour, with lovely little slubs in the yarn adding texture to the fabric. It even feels a bit like shot silk & is a pleasure to stitch on.

The Panel will use approx. 100mts Sashiko Thread when used singly.

Printed with wash away ink – don’t prewash the fabric! Also – don’t iron the fabric before stitching as the heat may set the ink! Any lines you do not want to stitch will disappear when the fabric is washed after all the stitching is completed. Wash in warm soapy water – leave to soak for 5 – 10 minutes, and rinse. Roll in a dry towel to absorb excess moisture and press with an iron on cotton setting on the back of the work.

Panel can be done as a whole item or the designs cut down for use on cushions / bags / garments or whatever possibility you can think of!

When stitching always leave a little slack when turning direction or moving across to another line – likewise leave a little loop on the back if you are stitching a long line stitches every so often – this all helps to reduce the puckering of the fabric.   Finish the raw edges if you haven’t already done so, before washing the lines out in warm soapy water, rinse, and press on the wrong side when nearly dry.
