Our workroom space was alive with the sound of clattering looms and chatter on Saturday with Karuna tutoring her weaving class – I saw lots of lovely samples on the tables.

I have had my ‘vintage’ (as I have discovered it is now called on various web sites – I would have said ‘elderly’) Bernina Minimatic 807 refurbished and is now down at the shop, so it can be used to demonstrate a technique if needed.  I bought it in 1976 when I was a student nurse at Taranaki Base Hospital…and yes she is a bit yellowed and tired looking – but she has done a lot of work in her time!  From making many curtains in the various homes we have lived in, sewing the upholstery on our narrowboat we had on the canal system in England, even making my wedding dress, along with countless other garments…. But she was retired in 2007 – when I succumbed to a bright shiny new Bernina 440QE – which in turn has done a lot of sewing …and of course now is actually being used for quilting!

I am looking forward to being a merchant at the 'Mid Summer Quilts in Motueka Exhibition' - 21st / 22nd / 23rd January at St Thomas's Anglican Church - High Street Motueka, so if you can - do call in to see the Exhibition.
I visited it last year with Beni the Boro Bear and Charlotte his girlfriend - and there were lots of beautiful quilts!

Over the Christmas and New Year breaks I had time to get some long overdue gardening tasks done…but the weeds are still ahead of my grubber tool!  The veg garden is very smart with the new planter boxes Steve made for me, replacing the old rotten wood ones.  I have planted a bee friendly garden in one of the beds….and as I was putting in a little Lobelia plant, a bee came to check it out! I hope she did the waggle dance to tell her friends?

I always do these newsletters looking out across our garden and our ‘borrowed’ garden – a beautiful view – we always joke that our garden is so huge we have a very large ornamental pond that fills and empties on a regular basis, and we let people come boating, paddle boarding, yachting and jet skiing in ‘our’ pond.  It is so lovely to live in such a beautiful area!

Thank you for your support over the last ‘interesting’ year, and we look forward to assisting you this year.
All the best from Christine & Steve,
Stephanie & Trudy.
