NEWSLETTER FEB 21

January Newsletter 2021

Hello

Goodness me - it is February already - January shot past me...
now my January jobs have joined Februarys'..and Feb is short month!

Photos of Trudys' Quilts at the Motueka Quilt Exhibition
Thank you Trudy for letting me put them in our newsletter.
It was a great Exhibition and I had a good catch up with
Kim, aka Mrs Milly Mac as well. (Can't beat the chocolate breaks!)

Sewing machine in good working order is needed for this course, plus a walking foot &  or an embroidery foot, which would be useful, but not absolutely essential.
Your usual Sewing requisites: scissors / safety pins / sewing pins / etc.
Choice of  colourways for your kit. Please make your choice at time of booking .
Students (in a fun and relaxed way) will learn how to construct a small quilt block using the 9 Patch Block as the centrepiece, using a rotary cutter safely, how to square up your blocks correctly, adding a border, batting, backing, and binding.
Different products will be discussed and some alternative ways of using your completed block.
Class numbers are limited to 8 per class.
If you would like to learn how to quilt - but have not yet purchased a sewing machine - we have 2 available for you to borrow - but you do need to book them in advance!

The workroom space is also available for other groups / individuals
to book to hold their own workshops.
Please contact us at the shop for further details - 03 544 7832

The kitchen in Quiltz 'n' More is undergoing a long awaited upgrade!  Steve has put up a ceiling with insulation!  So hopefully it will no longer be a sauna in summer and a freezer in winter!  Lots of the clutter has been cleared out and we are painting it this weekend.  Should look much better and brighter!

Another upgrade has been on the deck outside the Quilt Shop - such a lovely sunny spot for your lunch - and a spot for your other half to rest their feet whilst you are shopping!

Steve did a wonderful job refurbishing the bench seat, fresh coat of paint and he made the macrocarpa slats (from a tree we felled on our lifestyle block in New Plymouth).

Sashiko Beginners Workshops

All the current ones are now full!
But I am planning more Sashiko Workshops in a slightly different format,
along with a Boro Workshop...watch this space as they say.

Having a bit of a Basket and Bric a Brac Sale at the moment...
we had loads of baskets in the kitchen, needed to have a clear out!

We are planning more quilting workshops as well...prototypes are currently under construction and when the (excuse the pun) wrinkles have been ironed out more details will follow.

Talking of ironing...we now stock Wool Pressing Mats -
I am road testing one - and I am impresssed!

HOORAY!  Fabrics are arriving finally!
Lovely range of Pooh Bear Fabrics & Panel

Little Darlings Woodland range plus Butterfly Dreams range

Forest Retreat Panel

Forest Retreat Fabric Range

Lynette Anderson - Sunshine After the Rain

The 'Flair' Range - Japanese Inspired fabrics -
would work very well with your Sashiko

And a stunning new embroidery book!
Inspirations - A Passion for Needlework - Blakiston Creamery

some snapshots of a few of the projects

This is my favourite - I am determined to stitch it...
after I have finished a prototype Poppy Kit....

Poppy in progress...

Lost Property
In the kitchen we have a sewing machine I know nothing about -
it is labelled 'Sandra'
I don't know who Sandra is - but if you are reading this  -
or if one of the quilting ladies who used to come to the Thursday classes
knows who she is, can they please let her know.
We don't want to be held resposible for it should something happen.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to assisting you this year.
All the best from Christine & Steve,
Stephanie & Trudy.
